Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Valve, a member of The Linux Foundation, has initiated some ambitions projects: the SteamOS, a Linux operating system optimized for gaming, the Steam Machine, a gaming console that will run with SteamOS, a Debian based Linux gaming system and the Steam Controller, a game controller specially designed for SteamOS and the Steam Machine.
In order to be closer to conquering your living room, Valve is working hard at making games available for Linux. For now, over 1100 games can natively run on SteamOS and Linux, this representing 20% of the total Steam game titles, but this numbers are huge considering that gaming on Linux’s market-share is about 1%.
Personally, I do not see the Steam Machine and SteamOS capable of rivaling Xbox and PlayStation, but I really hope that will happen. While I am not a gamer (anymore), I have dreamed at playing Counter Strike with a game cotroller and now this is possible via the Steam Controller.
