Firefox 32 Beta Has Been Released + Installation Instructions For The Most Popular Linux Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Firefox is one of the most popular open-source browsers, developed by Mozilla.

As you may know, Firefox 32 Beta 1 has been released a while ago, coming with a bunch of changes and new feautres. Among others, HTTP caching (v2) has been made available by default, publuc key pinning support has been implemented, the password manager now displays the login metadata, the toolbar now displays the number of found items, support for connecting to an HTTP proxy over HTTPS, both the Add-on Manager and the Password Manager have received improvements, the vibration API has been updated, mix-blend-mode has been enabled by default, HiDPI support has been added in the Developer Tools UI and a new Web Audio Editor has been implemented. In this article I will show you how to install Firefox 32 Beta on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Pinguy OS, LXLE, Deepin, Linux Lite, Peppermint, Debian, Kwheezy, Crunchbang, SparkyLinux, Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, Mageia and OpenMandriva.

Because Firefox 32 Beta is not available via any repository yet, we have to download Firefox 32 Beta from the Mozilla site, extract the archive, move to /opt and alias the launcher.

Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install Firefox 32 Beta on 32 bit Ubuntu, Debian CentOS, OpenSUSE, Mageia, OpenMandriva and derivative systems:

$ wget https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/32.0b1/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-32.0b1.tar.bz2
$ tar -xjvf firefox-32.0b1.tar.bz2
$ sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox32beta
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/firefox32beta/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

To start Firefox 32 beta, just open a terminal, type firefox and hit enter.

How to install Firefox 32 Beta on 64 bit Ubuntu, Debian CentOS, OpenSUSE, Mageia, OpenMandriva and derivative systems:

$ wget https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/releases/32.0b1/linux-x86_64/en-US/firefox-32.0b1.tar.bz2
$ tar -xjvf firefox-32.0b1.tar.bz2
$ sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox32beta
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/firefox32beta/firefox /usr/bin/firefox
