Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Mozilla has released the Firefox Developer Edition, targeting web developers. It will be the first Firefox version, getting the latest features 12 weeks before they are added to the stable version, some experimental developer tools have been implemented, better debugging support will be added and uses a different profile than the other Firefox installations.

Firefox Developer Edition is replacing the Aurora channel, which previously was the first Firefox version to get the latest changes. For now, the latest version available is Firefox Developer Edition 35 Alpha 2.

In this article I will show you how to install Firefox Developer Edition 35 Alpha 2 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Pinguy OS 14.04, Peppermint Five, Deepin 2014, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, Debian Jessie, Debian Wheezy, Fedora 21, Fedora 20, OpenSUSE 13.1, OpenSUSE 12.3, Mageia 4, OpenMandriva 2014, Arch Linux and Manjaro systems.

Because Firefox Developer Edition 35 Alpha 2 is not available via any repository yet, we have to download Developer Edition 35 Alpha 2 from the Mozilla site, extract the archive, move to /opt and alias the launcher.

Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install Developer Edition 35 Alpha 2 on 32 bit Linux systems:

$ wget http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-gum/firefox-35.0a2.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2
$ tar -xjvf firefox-35.0a2.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2
$ sudo rm -rf /opt/firefox*
$ sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox-dev
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/firefox-dev/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

To start Firefox Developer Edition 35 Alpha 2, just open a terminal, type firefox and hit enter.

How to install Firefox 33 on 64 bit Linux systems:

$ wget http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-gum/firefox-35.0a2.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2
$ tar -xjvf firefox-35.0a2.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2
$ sudo rm -rf /opt/firefox*
$ sudo mv firefox /opt/firefox-dev
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/firefox-dev/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

To start Firefox Developer Edition 35 Alpha 2, just open a terminal, type firefox and hit enter.

Note: This will replace the version of Firefox you have already on your system with Firefox 33.
