GNOME 3.14.1 Has Been Released. How To Install GNOME 3.14.1 On Ubuntu 14.10

Hello Linux Geeksters. Not long after the release of GNOME 3.14, which brought new features and enhancements, GNOME 3.14.1 has been released, coming with bug-fixes only.

Among others, GNOME Shell’s pulse animation now works properly, some user interface enhancements have been implemented, a bunch of known-issues have been removed and the following applications: at-spi2-atk, Baobab, Empathy, Eye of GNOME, Epiphany, Evince, evolution-data-server, GNOME Display Manager, GNOME Desktop, GNOME Contacts, GNOME Shell, GNOME Control Center, GTK+, Mutter, Tracker, Vala, Yelp, Bijiben, Evolution, GNOME Boxes, GNOME Clocks, Mahjongg, GNOME Music, GNOME Software, GNOME Weather, GNOME Sudoku, Iagno, Polary, Rygel and Vinagre.

In this article I will show you how to install GNOME 3.14.1 on Ubuntu GNOME 14.10 Utopic Unicorn.

Because all the required packages will be soon available via the GNOME Unstable PPAs, in order to properly install GNOME 3.14.1 on Ubuntu GNOME 14.10, we have to add all the needed PPAs to our system, update the local repository index and perform a normal system upgrade:

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ricotz/testing
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

To reverse the changes, do:

$ sudo apt-add-repository -r ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
$ sudo apt-add-repository -r ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
$ sudo apt-add-repository -r ppa:ricotz/testing
$ sudo apt-get update
