Hello Linux Geeksters. GNOME 3.10 RC (Gnome 3.9.92) has been released. This allows the users to test the new Gnome desktop and report bugs, in order to make the developer’s life easier. As you may already know, the developers have worked hard in order to bring full Wayland support to the Gnome 3.10. For more information, see the official mailing lists.
Gnome 3.10 is in a code freeze state, so Gnome 3.10 RC (Gnome 3.9.92) comes only with bugfixes. Gnome 3.10 should be released on the 25th of September, 2013. Fedora 20 should be the first Linux system to be released with Gnome 3.10 by default.
In this article I will show you how to install and test Gnome 3.10 RC (Gnome 3.9.92) on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander and Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail.
Because it has been added to the Gnome Staging PPA, installing Gnome 3.10 RC (Gnome 3.9.92) on Ubuntu is easy. All you have to do is add the needed ppa, update the local repository index and install the gnome-desktop3 package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop3
