Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Awesome is a lightweight, highly customizable window manager for the X display server, written in C and Lua. Also worth mentioning, it has 9 easily accessible workspaces and allows the users to users to manage the windows via the keyboard.
The latest version available is Awesome 3.5.6, which has been recently released, coming with vim style menu navigation, unmapping of minimized clients, a fix for a short black flicker when a client closes and some fixes.
In this article I will show you how to install Awesome Window Manager 3.5.6 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.
Because it is available via PPA, installing Awesome Window Manager 3.5.6 on Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the awesome package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:klaus-vormweg/awesome
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install awesome
After you have successfully installed Awesome on your system, log out and log back in, with Awesome.
Optional, to remove awesome, do:
$ sudo apt-get remove awesome
