Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Banshee is an open source music player, developed by Novell. For encoding and decoding, it uses the GStreamer library. The latest version available is Banshee 2.9.0, which has been released a few days ago, bringing over 30 fixes. For more information, see the official announcement.

In this article I will show you how to install Banshee 2.9.0 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pear OS 8 and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.

It will be soon added to the Banshee Official PPA, so installing it is easy. Just add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the banshee package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:banshee-team/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install banshee
