How To Install Firefox 26 On Fedora 20/19/18 And CentOS 6

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Firefox 26 has been released in mid-December. Among others, it comes with all the Java plugins disabled by default, and so the users will be asked to enable them only when needed, via a click-to-play option. It also comes with support for H.264, improved CSP implementation, support for CSS image orientation property, some fixes for the matching of JPEG images based on EXIF, decreased page load due to the removal of decoding non-visible images and a bunch of security fixes.

In this article I will show you how to install Firefox 26 on Fedora 20, Fedora 19, Fedora 18 and CentOS 6.

Because Firefox 26 has been added to the default repos of Fedora 20, Fedora 19 and Fedora 18, installing it is easy. All you have to do is:

$ sudo yum update
$ sudo yum install firefox

In order to get Firefox 26 on CentOS 6 systems, we have to install and activate the remi and epel repositories, update the local repo index and install the firefox package. Like this:

$ wget Uvh http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
$ sudo rpm -Uvh epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
$ wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/remi-release-6.rpm
$ sudo rpm -Uvh remi-release-6.rpm
$ sudo yum --enablerepo=remi update firefox
$ sudo yum update
$ sudo yum install firefox
