Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, GIMP (The GNU Image Manipulation Program) is an open source photo editor, working on both Linux and Windows. The latest stable version available is GIMP 2.8.6 and the developers are working hard at updating it to Gimp 2.9.1, which is currently under development.

In this article I will show you how to install GIMP 2.9.1 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia and Pear OS 8.

Because it is available via PPA, installing GIMP 2.9.1 on Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Pear OS is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the gimp package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp-edge
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install gimp
