Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, there isn’t any official Google Drive client for Linux yet, but there are alternatives. One useful tool for mounting Google Drive on Linux is Google Drive Ocamlfuse. The latest version available is Google Drive Ocamlfuse 0.5.8, which has been recently released, coming only with better error handling.

Main features:

  • Full read/write access to ordinary files and folders
  • Read-only access to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides (exported to configurable formats)
  • Multiple account support
  • Duplicate file handling
  • Access to trash (`.Trash` directory)

In this article I will show you how to install Google Drive Ocamlfuse 0.5.8 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin and derivative systems, including: Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Pinguy OS 14.04, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04 and Linux Lite 2.0.

How to install Google Drive Ocalmfuse 0.5.8:

Because it is available via PPA, installing Google Drive Ocamlfuse 0.5.8 on the listed Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Pinguy OS, Deepin, Peppermint, LXLE and Linux Lite systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the google-drive-ocamlfuse package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alessandro-strada/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install google-drive-ocamlfuse

Next, we have to authorize it with Google. Paste the below command in the terminal:

$ google-drive-ocamlfuse

Your internet browser will open and you will be asked to allow Google Drive Ocamlfuse to access your Google Drive and wait a to retrieve the authorization code.

Next, i will create the ~/path/to/directory folder:

$ mkdir -p ~/path/to/directory

Mount/Sync on Google Drive

$ google-drive-ocamlfuse ~/path/to/directory

    1. After mount, will be always automatic that it will sync? Like what happens when I shut down the computer and start again? Will I have to mount/sync again?
    2. What happens after the 30 days the app has been given permissions?
