How To Install HexChat 2.10 On Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pinguy OS, Elementary OS And Derivative Systems

As you may know, HexChat is an IRC client,. It is based on XChat, but works on both Windows and Linux / Unix. The latest version available is HexChat 2.10, which brings fixes and improvements to the previous version. For more information, see the changelog.

In this article I will show you how to install HexChat 2.10 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Pinguy OS 12.04, LXLE 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Isis and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.

Because it is available via PPA, installing HexChat 2.10 on Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Elementary OS is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to the system, update the local repository index and install the hexchat package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/hexchat-stable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install hexchat

Optional, to remove hexchat, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove hexchat
