How To Install HomeBank 5.0.1 On Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, HomeBank is an open-source, cross-platform management software available for Linux, Mac OS X, Windows and Meego, that enables the users to manage their finances and keep track of their transactions.

The latest version available is HomeBank 5.0.1, which has been recently released, coming with new features, changes and bug-fixes (from the changelog):

  • change: xhb data file format (v1.1)
  • wish : inherit txn should set status to none
  • wish : “Fill from template” showed by default
  • wish : reconciled icons, text and translation
  • wish : keyboard shortcut to transaction none status
  • wish : txn same consecutive entry
  • wish : for transfers, display target/source account as payee
  • bugfix: document the “Cleared” operation status
  • bugfix: shortcut clashes with search or other text entry widgets
  • bugfix: -0,00€ for total of account
  • bugfix: status of template transactions is ignored
  • bugfix: QIF import sometimes fails in v5.0
  • bugfix: gtk warning from console
  • bugfix: trend time report shows dates from closed accounts
  • bugfix: typo problem in chart tooltip (apos)
  • bugfix: ctrl+w no longer closes account window
  • bugfix: visible column names are not localized in preferences dialog
  • bugfix: not all languages updates were imported for 5.0

In this article I will show you how to install HomeBank 5.0.1 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installing HomeBank 5.0.1 on Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.10 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the repository index and install the homebank package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mdoyen/homebank
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install homebank

Optional, to remove homebank, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove homebank
