Hello Linux Geeksters. Kid3 is an app for tagging the following music file formats (similar to EasyTag): MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, FLAC, MPC, MP4/AAC, MP2, Speex, TrueAudio, WavPack, WMA, WAV and AIFF. The latest version available is Kid3 3.1, which comes with some bug-fixes and support for more file formats, among others. For a full list of features, see the official site.

In this article I will show you how to install Kid3 3.1 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and Linux Mint 17 Qiana.

Because it is not available via any ppa or repository, we have to download the needed packages from the project’s site and install them via command-line. I prefer gdebi over dpkg, due to the fact that it also handles dependencies. Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install Kid3 3.1 on 32 bit Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 systems:

For KDE systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget sourceforge.net/projects/kid3/files/kid3/3.1/kid3-core_3.1-0trusty_i386.deb
$ sudo gdebi kid3-core_3.1-0trusty_i386.deb
$ wget sourceforge.net/projects/kid3/files/kid3/3.1/kid3_3.1-0trusty_i386.deb
$ sudo gdebi kid3_3.1-0trusty_i386.deb

For non-KDE systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget sourceforge.net/projects/kid3/files/kid3/3.1/kid3-core_3.1-0trusty_i386.deb
