Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, LibreOffice is an open-source popular Office Suite application, running on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X. The latest version available is LibreOffice 4.2.0 RC1, which  has been released a while ago, bringing some DOCX/RTF import fixes, image transformation in SVG Import support, the SpinButton has been removed, etc. For more information, see the changelog.

In this article I will show you how to install LibreOffice 4.2.0 RC1 on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pear OS, Elementary OS, Debian and Kwheezy.

Because it is not available via any repository yet, we have to download the libreoffice archive from the official site, extract it and install the dpkg package. Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install LibreOffice 4.2.0 RC1 on 32 bit Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pear OS, Elementary OS, Debian and Kwheezy systems:

$ wget -c download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/testing/4.2.0/deb/x86/LibreOfficeDev_4.2.0.0.beta2_Linux_x86_deb.tar.gz
$ tar -xzvf LibreOfficeDev_4.2.0.0.beta2_Linux_x86_deb.tar.gz
$ cd LibreOfficeDev_4.2.0.0.beta2_Linux_x86_deb/DEBS
$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb

    You haven’t mentioned even the new start UI in LibreOffice 4.2. I think it is a visible-enough new feature — it surprised me when I installed this version!
