How To Install LightTable 0.7.2 On The Most Popular Linux Systems

As you may know, LightTable is an open-source IDE that allows the users to modify running programs and embed games from websites, providing real time feedback to the programmers, helping them to see the efect of their code. It has support for Python, JavaScript and Clojure, among other programming languages.

Also worth mentioning, the developers have started a Kickstarter fundraising campaign, where they have raised $317.720, despite the fact that they wanted only $200.000.

In this article I will show you how to install LightTable 0.7.2 on the most popular Linux systems, including: Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pinguy OS, Elementary OS, Deepin, Peppermint, LXLE, Linux Lite, Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, Mageia, OpenMandriva, Arch Linux, Manjaro and other Linux systems.

Because it is not available via any repository, we have to download the LightTable archive from the project’s site, extract it, cd into the extracted folder and run the LightTable executable file.

Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install LightTable 0.7.2 on 32 bit (i386/i586/i686) systems:

$ cd ~
$ wget https://d35ac8ww5dfjyg.cloudfront.net/playground/bins/0.7.2/LightTableLinux.tar.gz
$ tar -xzvf LightTableLinux.tar.gz
$ sudo mv LightTable /opt/LightTable
$ sudo ln -s /opt/LightTable/LightTable /usr/bin/lighttable

How to install LightTable 0.7.2 on 64 bit (amd64/x86_64) systems:

$ cd ~
$ wget https://d35ac8ww5dfjyg.cloudfront.net/playground/bins/0.7.2/LightTableLinux64.tar.gz
$ tar -xzvf LightTableLinux64.tar.gz
$ sudo mv LightTable /opt/LightTable
$ sudo ln -s /opt/LightTable/LightTable /usr/bin/lighttable

To run the app, just open a terminal, type lighttable and hit enter.

Optional, to remove LightTable, from either a 32 bit or a 64 bit Linux system, do:

$ sudo rm -r /opt/LightTable /usr/bin/lighttable
