Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Midnight Commander, or MC, is a file manager released under the GNU licence. Like every file manager, it enables the users to easily copy, move, delete and manage files and folders, having a full-screen text mode user interface. The latest stable version available is Midnight Commander 4.8.11. The users are also able to work with MC from a regular console, inside a terminal or over SSH. For a full list of changes, brought by MC 4.8.11, see the official changelog.
In this article I will show you how to install Midnight Commander 4.8.11 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pear OS 8 and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.
Because it is available via PPA, installing Midnight Commander 4.8.11 on the listed Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pear OS and Elementary OS systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the mc package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:eugenesan/ppa
