How To Install NetBeans IDE 8.0 On All The Supported Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS And Debian Systems

Hello LInux Geeksters. Along with the release of the Oracle Java 8, also the NetBeans IDE 8.0 has been receleased. For information about this release, see the changelog for yourselves. how to install NetBeans IDE 8.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Debian

In this article I will show you how to install NetBeans IDE 8.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 14 Nadia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Debian and their derivative systems.

First, we have to install the Oracle Java 8. For Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Elementary OS, it is available via PPA, so all you have to do is:

$ $ sudo apt-get purge openjdk*
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

Due to the fact that Debian does not have support for PPAs, we have to use it as a simple repository.

How to install Java 8 on Debian Wheezy:

$ echo "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu precise main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
$ echo "deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu precise main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
$ apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys EEA14886
$ apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

How to install Java 8 on Debian Jessie:

$ echo "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu trusty main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
$ echo "deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu trusty main" | tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
$ apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys EEA14886
$ apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

If the Oracle Java 8 has been successfully installed, we can now install NetBeans IDE 8.0.

How to install NetBeans IDE 8.0 on 32 bit Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Debian and their derivative systems:

$ wget download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/jdk-nb/8-8.0/jdk-8-nb-8-linux-i586.sh
$ sudo chmod +x jdk-8-nb-8-linux-i586.sh
$ ./jdk-8-nb-8-linux-i586.sh

How to install NetBeans IDE 8.0 on 64 bit Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Debian and their derivative systems:

$ wget download.oracle.com/otn-pub/java/jdk-nb/8-8.0/jdk-8-nb-8-linux-x64.sh
$ sudo chmod +x jdk-8-nb-8-linux-x64.sh
$ sudo ./jdk-8-nb-8-linux-x64.sh
