How To Install Otter Brower 0.9.04 On Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 And Derivatives, Via PPA

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the Otter Browser is an open source lightweight internet browser, similar to the good old Opera 12 Browser, with a interface developed in Qt5 and WebKit.

The latest version available is Otter Browser 0.9.04, which has been recently released, coming with the below changes:

  • allow to load plugins on demand;
  • added Go to Page dialog (F2);
  • initial version of sidebar;
  • added initial versions of Website Preferences and Quick Preferences (F12);
  • added Trash to Bookmarks Manager;
  • added Ctrl+Tab tabs switching;
  • added option to set user style sheet;
  • added tray icon;
  • allow to customize menu bar (JSON file);
  • various minor fixes and improvements.

In this article I will show you how to install Otter Browser 0.9.04 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Linux Lite 2.0, LXLE 14.04 and other Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 12.04 derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installing Otter Browser 0.9.04 on Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 12.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the otter-browser package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otter-browser/release
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install otter-browser

Optional, to remove otter-browser, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove otter-browser
