In this article I will show you how to install PyCharm 4.0.5 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

Because it is available via the GetDeb repository, installing PyCharm 4.0.5 on Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. Follow the instructions for your system exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

$ wget -q -O - http://archive.getdeb.net/getdeb-archive.key | sudo apt-key add -

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install pycharm

Optional: to uninstall pycharm, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove pycharm

PyCharm requires Oracle Java. If you don’t have it on your system, do this to install Java 8:

$ sudo apt-get purge openjdk*
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installer

How to install PyCharm 4.0.5 on Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems:
