How To Install RipperX 2.8.0 On Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, RipperX is an open-source, application for ripping CD audio tracks and encoding them into the Ogg, FLAC, or MP2/3 formats using the vorbis tools.

The latest version available is RipperX 2.8.0, which has been recently released, coming with the below changes:

  • New upstream release.
  • Now build-depends on libtag1-dev.
  • Acknowledge NMU.
  • Migrate packaging repo to git collab-maint; update Vcs- fields.
  • Use dh_autoreconf and simplify debian/rules.
  • Bump standards version to 3.9.5.
  • Set debhelper compat to 9.
  • Correct spelling of Ogg in description.

In this article I will show you how to install RipperX 2.8.0 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

For Ubuntu 15.04 and Ubuntu 14.10, RipperX 2.8.0 is available via the default repositories, so all you have to do is update the local repository index and install the ripperx package. Like this:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install ripperx

For Ubuntu 14.04, Linux Mint 17.1, Linux Mint 17, Elementary OS 0.3 and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems, we have to download the ripperx 2.8.0 deb package from launchpad and install it via command-line. I prefer gdebi over dpkg due to the fact that it also handles dependencies.

Follow the instructions for your system’s architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install RipperX 2.8.0 on 32 bit Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/175981640/ripperx_2.8.0-1_i386.deb
$ sudo gdebi ripperx_2.8.0-1_i386.deb

How to install RipperX 2.8.0 on 64 bit Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/175981650/ripperx_2.8.0-1_amd64.deb
$ sudo gdebi ripperx_2.8.0-1_amd64.deb

Optional, to remove ripperx, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove ripperx
