Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, SmartGit/Hg is an open source, cross platform, graphical client for Git and Mercurial with SVN repositories support, running on Linux and Mac OS X systems. The latest version available is SmartGit/Hg 5.0.6, which has been recently released. For a full list of changes and improvements, see the release notes.
In this article I will show you how to install SmartGit/Hg 5.0.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pear OS 8 and Elementary OS 0.2 Luna.
Because it will be available via PPA soon, installing SmartGit/Hg 5.0.6 on the listed Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pear OS and Elementary OS systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the smartgithg package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:eugenesan/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install smartgithg
If you don’t want to wait until Smartgit/HG 5.0.6 will be added to the PPA, you can download the smartgithg from the official site and install it via dpkg:
$ wget http://www.syntevo.com/smartgithg/download?file=smartgithg/smartgithg-5_0_6.deb
$ sudo dpkg -i smartgithg-5_0_6.deb
