How To Install TagSpaces 1.8.5 On Linux Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, TagSpaces is an open-source software for managing and syncing files and folders with other devices, by using tags. Via the HTML5 interface, the users are able to synchronize files on both their personal computer and external storage with ownCloud, Dropbox or Bittorrent Sync or other storage services.

The latest version available is TagSpaces 1.8.5, which has been recently released, coming with new features and improvements:

  • adding support for drag & drop of files into tagspaces from your native file manager
  • adding copy and move file functionality
  • adding duplicate file functionality
  • viewer for .url .website and .desktop files added, allowing you to use TagSpaces as a kind of a bookmark manager
  • sorting functionality for the tags in a taggroup added
  • updating the french, spanishm german, bulgaria and portugeese translations
  • adding spanish and initial ukrainian translations
  • adding checkbox in the experimental option for loading of the location meta data
  • adding support for loading tags from the current locaton directory, feature can be enabled in the experimental tab of the settings
  • opening new files directly in edit mode

How To Install TagSpaces 1.8.5 On Linux Systems

In this article I will show you how to install TagSpaces 1.8.5 on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Pinguy OS, LXLE, Deepin, Linux Lite, Peppermint, Debian, Kwheezy, Crunchbang, SparkyLinux, Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, Mageia and OpenMandriva.

For Ubuntu, Debian and derivative systems, the tagspaces website provides deb packages, while for other Linux systems, there is a portable version of TagSpaces that we can use. Follow the instructions for your system and architecture exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install TagSpaces 1.8.5 on Ubuntu, Debian and derivative systems:

Instructions for 32 bit systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget github.com/uggrock/tagspaces/releases/download/v1.8.5/tagspaces_1.8.5_i386.deb
$ sudo gdebi tagspaces_1.8.5_i386.deb

Instructions for 64 bit systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget github.com/uggrock/tagspaces/releases/download/v1.8.5/tagspaces_1.8.5_amd64.deb
$ sudo gdebi tagspaces_1.8.5_amd64.deb

Optional, to remove tagspaces, from both 32 bit and 64 bit Ubuntu, Debian ad derivative systems, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove tagspaces

How to install TagSpaces 1.8.5 on other Linux systems:

Instructions for 32 bit systems:

$ wget https://github.com/uggrock/tagspaces/releases/download/v1.8.5/tagspaces-1.8.5-linux32.tar.gz
$ tar -xzvf tagspaces-1.8.5-linux32.tar.gz
$ sudo mv tagspaces-l32 /opt
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/tagspaces-l32/tagspaces /usr/bin/tagspaces

Just type tagspaces in the terminal, to use the application.

Instructions for 64 bit systems:

$ wget https://github.com/uggrock/tagspaces/releases/download/v1.8.5/tagspaces-1.8.5-linux64.tar.gz
$ tar -xzvf tagspaces-1.8.5-linux64.tar.gz
$ sudo mv tagspaces-l64 /opt
$ sudo ln -sf /opt/tagspaces-l64/tagspaces /usr/bin/tagspaces

Just type tagspaces in the terminal, to use the application.

Optional, to remove tagspaces, from both 32 bit and 64 bit Linux systems, do:

$ sudo rm -rf /opt/tagspaces* /usr/bin/tagspaces
