How To Install TeamViewer 9 (Build 32150) On Ubuntu 14.04, Debian Jessie, Debian Wheezy And Derivatives

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Teamviewer is a non-free software for remote control via the internet.

Among others TeamViewer 9 got Wake-on-Lan support, two factor authentication for TeamViewer accounts, copy and paste support via clipboard, quick connections via desktop shortcuts, support for notifications, a redesigned interface, support for waiting connections in multiple tabs, a new feature that enables the users to perform file transfers without establishing connections, it got support for notifications and got enhanced video  support.

The latest stable version available is TeamViewer 9 Build 32150, which has been released a while ago, coming with a few changes only:

  • VoIP and Phone Conference widgets are now combined for easier selection
  • Connections to contacts don’t require the pre-selection of the target device anymore
  • Improved the recognition and reconnection after a reboot
  • Other minor improvements and fixes

In this article I will show you how to install TeamViewer 9 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, Deepin 2014, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Peppermint Five, Debian Jessie, Debian Wheezy and other Ubuntu and Debian derivative systems.

Because it is not available via PPA, we have to download the deb package from the official site and install it by hand. I prefer gdebi over dpkg due to the fact that it also handles dependencies. Follow the instructions for your system exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install TeamViewer 9 on 32 bit Ubuntu, Debian and derivative systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget download.teamviewer.com/download/teamviewer_linux.deb
$ sudo gdebi teamviewer_linux.deb

How to install TeamViewer 9 on 64 bit Ubuntu, Debian and derivative systems:

$ sudo apt-get install gdebi
$ wget download.teamviewer.com/download/teamviewer_linux_x64.deb
$ sudo gdebi teamviewer_linux_x64.deb

Optional, to remove remove teamviewer 9, on both 32 bit and 64 bit architectures, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove teamviewer
