How To Install TuxOnIce On Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10, 12.04

In this article I will show you how to install TuxOnIce on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin.

TuxOnIce is a hibernate application, similar with the one from Windows Systems. It is better than the default hibernation option, because it can be customized, for example to restore the computer from hibernation when pressed a certain key.

TuxOnIce finds your swap partition by default and does not need any additional hibernation packages.

If your computer supports hibernation (sudo pm-hibernate works), you won’t have any problems with TuxOnIce. Most users use TuxOnIce with the default settings.

Install TuxOnIce on Ubuntu:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tuxonice/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install tuxonice-userui linux-generic-tuxonice linux-headers-generic-tuxonice
$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/tuxonice-userui/tuxoniceui /usr/local/sbin/tuxoniceui_text

    I was playing with TuxOnIce hibernation on Ubuntu 14.04. At first, I was trying with encrypted SWAP, but without success. Fortunately, everything works fine once SWAP partition is not encrypted.
    Thanks!
