Hello Linux Geeksters. Ubuntu Touch X86 emulator has been recently released, coming with support for both Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 14.10.

As you may know, the Ubuntu Touch emulator allows the users to test Ubuntu Touch, the mobile version of Ubuntu, before installing it on a Nexus device. While Ubuntu Touch emulator is still in its early development stage, it works well enough for the users to make an impression about Canonical’s mobile OS.

In this article I will show you how to install Ubuntu Touch Emulator X86 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn (which is in its early development stage).

Follow the instructions for your system exactly, in order to get a successful installation.

How to install Ubuntu Touch Emulator X86 on Ubuntu 14.04:

$ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:phablet-team/tools
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-emulator ubuntu-emulator-runtime

How to install Ubuntu Touch Emulator X86 on Ubuntu 14.10:

$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-emulator ubuntu-emulator-runtime

Next, to create an image, do:

$ sudo ubuntu-emulator create --channel=ubuntu-touch/utopic-proposed
--arch=i386 test_x86

To run the emulator, do:

$ ubuntu-emulator run test_x86
