How to Install Virtualbox on Opensuse 12.3

In this article I will show you how to install the Virtualbox on the latest OpenSUSE Linux Distribution, OpenSUSE 12.3.

Follow my steps exactly for an successful installation.

So, let’s start. Before installing Virtualbox, you need the library.

Install it with zypper:

$ sudo zypper in

Next, download the VirtualBox .rpm file, for your System Architecture:

*for 32 bit systems:

$ wget

*for 64 bit systems:

$ wget

Install the Virtualbox *.rpm file:

$ sudo rpm -ivh VirtualBox-4.2-4.2.0_80737_openSUSE114-1.i586.rpm


$ sudo rpm -ivh VirtualBox-4.2-4.2.0_80737_openSUSE114-1.x86_64.rpm

    After installation. How do you run/start virtualbox? I have VBoxGTk under applications (already installed) but it doesn’t do anything.

    I use the QT gui instead of the GTk one. I installed it through yast. Here is what I did to get the latest (4.2.18) version as of 23Sep2013:
    Go to this page on the openSuse website: and install from there.
