How To Install Webby Browser 1.0 On Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Webby Browser is an open-source software which helps the users create web applications of their favorite websites, next being able to open websites from the menu, without needing an internet browser.

Being based on WebKit, the users have to enter the website’s url, name and icon and thick if they want to save the password or not.

The latest version available is Webby Browser 1.0, which is developed for Elementary OS, but the software can be also installed on other systems.

how to install Webby Browser 1.0 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2

In this article I will show you how to install Webby Browser 1.0 on Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu 14.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

For Ubuntu 14.10, we only need to add the PPA to our system, update the local repository index and install the webby-browser package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:erasmo-marin/webby-browser
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install webby-browser

Optional, to remove webby-browser, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove webby-browser

In order to install Webby on Ubuntu 14.04, we also have to add the GNOME3 and GNOME3 Staging PPAs along with the Webby PPA, update the local repository index and install the webby-browser package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:erasmo-marin/webby-browser
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install webby-browser

Optional, to remove webby-browser, do:

$ sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
$ sudo add-apt-repository -r ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging
$ sudo apt-get remove webby-browser
