How To Install wxMaxima 14.09.0 On Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivatives

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, wxMaxima is an open-source graphical user interface for the computer algebra system Maxima, using wxWidgets. Among others, wxMaxima provides menus and dialogs for maxima commands, autocompletion, inline plots and simple animations.

The latest version available is wxMaxima 14.09.0, which has been recently released.

how to install wxMaxima 14.09.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, Pinguy OS 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, LXLE 14.04

In this article I will show you how to install wxMaxima 14.09.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, Pinguy OS 14.04, Linux Lite 2.0, LXLE 14.04 and other Ubuntu 14.04 derivative systems.

Because it is available via PPA, installin wxMaxima 14.09.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 and derivative systems is easy. All you have to do is add the ppa to your system, update the local repository index and install the wxmaxima package. LikeĀ  this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:blahota/wxmaxima
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wxmaxima

Optional, to remove wxmaxima, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove wxmaxima
