How To Install XFCE 4.11 On Ubuntu 13.10, 13.04, 12.10, 12.04 And Linux Mint 16, 15, 14, 13

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, XFCE 4.11 has been released a while ago. Since it is a development release, it comes with many bugfixes. For more information, see the official changelog.

In this article I will show you how to install XFCE 4.11 on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 16 Petra, Linux Mint 15 Olivia, Linux Mint 14 Nadia and Linux Mint 13 Maya.

Because it is available via PPA, installing XFCE 4.11 on Ubuntu and Linux Mint is easy. All you have to do is add the needed repositories, update the local repository index and install the xfdesktop4 package. Like this:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install xfdesktop4

If you already have a previous version of XFCE running on your Ubuntu or Linux Mint system, do the following, in order to upgrade to the latest XFCE Desktop Environment version.

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
