You Can Now Record Movies With Your Old DSLR Camera, Via EOS Camera Movie Record (EOS MovRec)

The EOS Camera Movie Record is a software that permits the users to record videos with DSLR cameras that do not have video recording features. Via the graphical interface, you can start and stop the recording, adjust the White Balance, change the focus and zoom and see the captured image.

The supported cameras are the following: Canon EOS 450D, Canon EOS 1000D, Canon 40D, Canon 50D, Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 1Ds Mark III.

The latest version available is EOS Camera Movie Record 0.3.3 Beta, released a while ago.

Installation instructions:

The latest EOS MovRec builds are available via some third party PPA, so installing the software on Ubuntu and derivative systems should not cause too many problems. You just need to add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the birdfont package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dhor/myway
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install eos-movrec

Optional, to remove birdfont, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove eos-movrec

The installation instructions should work on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and derivative systems like Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint 6, Peppermint 5, LXLE 14.04 and Linux Lite 2.
