Install Firefox 19 on Debian Testing

In this article I will show you how to install Firefox 19 on Debian Wheezy / Testing. This works for both 32 and 64 bit systems.

Step 1, install all the dependencies:

$ sudo apt-get install bzip2 build-essential python zip unzip pkg-config libgtk2.0-dev gconf2 libdbus-1-dev libdbus-glib-1-dev yasm libasound2-dev libcurl4-gnutls-dev libxt-dev mesa-common-dev

Step 2, download the Firefox 19 tar ball:

$ wget ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/19.0.2/source/firefox-19.0.2.source.tar.bz2

Step 3, extract the Firefox 19 tar ball and cd into it:

$ tar xvf firefox-19.0.2.source.tar.bz2
$ cd mozilla-release

Step 4, make the proper configurations:

$ sudo chmod +x configure
$ ./configure

Step 5, compile the sources and install Firefox 19:

$ make
$ sudo make install

Optional, you can alias firefox for an easier usage. This is my Firefox alias:

$ alias ffx='nohup firefox &> /dev/null &

This alias lets your terminal usable, because it trows all the output to /dev/null and also Firefox does not die when you close the terminal, because nohup demonizes the Firefox process.

    getting stuck at step 4 making the proper configuration. ./configure just responds with No such file or directory in the command prompt.
