Quiedit 0.23 Is A Distraction Free Text Writer

As you may know, Quiedit is an open-source, distraction free writing software, having theming, basic text formatting support, Markdown syntax and spell checking support.

The latest version available is Quiedit 0.23, which has been released a while ago.

How to install QuiEdit on Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf and Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet:

Append the PPA (for Trusty) to your sources.list:

$ sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/smathot/cogscinl/ubuntu trusty main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list'

Add the repository key, update the local repository index and install the textroom package:

$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys CEE7C815
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install quiedit

Use this script to remove the PPA (for Trusty) from your sources.list:

$ sudo sh -c 'head -n -1 /etc/apt/sources.list > temp.txt ; mv temp.txt /etc/apt/sources.list'

Optional, to remove quiedit, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove quiedit

How to install TextRoom on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Linux Mint 17.x and Elementary OS 0.3 Freya:

For Ubuntu 14.04 and derivatives, QuiEdit is available via some third party PPA, so installing the software is easy. Just add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the quiedit package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:smathot/cogscinl
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install quiedit

Optional, to remove quiedit, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove quiedit
