SmartSynchronize 3.4.3 Brings A Lot Of Fixes And Changes

As you may know, SmartSynchronize is an open-source, cross-platform file and directory comparison tool, permitting the users to compare files and perform 3-way merges and compare entire directory structures.

Main features of SmartSynchronize:

File Compare:

  • comfortable editing and transfer of changes from one file to the other
  • inner-line change detection

Directory Compare:

  • configurable filter for customized directory scanning (inclusion and exclusion)
  • configurable filter for ignored files
  • easy transfer of changes from one directory structure to another
  • saving configuration for later re-use (“profile”)
  • automatic synchronization depending on file times and previous synchronization time

3-Way-Merge:

  • ability to edit each of the three files
  • easy merge from changed files to resulting files

General

  • command line interface for easy invocation from other applications
  • configurable font, colors and accelerators
  • support for all major text file encodings

The latest version available is SmartSynchronize 3.4.3, which brings the below changes:

  • About dialog: ability to update installation directory
  • Autoupdate:when configured to only report a new version, allow to trigger the download from the notification and better cleanup of older builds
  • Directory Compare: show progress in task bar icon
  • Table filtering: changing the filter automatically selects first row

Fixed Bugs:

  • Autupdate: may fail because running instance could not be exited correctly
  • Docking: drag-and-drop preview showed non-rectangular form
  • Encoding: internal error selecting, e.g., x-JISAutoDetect
  • File Compare, View Settings: “Trim equal start/end of inner-line change” was
    not remembered
  • File Compare/Merge: refresh did not reload files form disk
  • Notifications: may have stolen focus

Up to date packages are available via some third party PPA, so installing SmartSynchronize on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and derivative systems like Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Deepin 2014, Peppermint 6, Peppermint 5, LXLE 14.04 and Linux Lite 2 systems is easy. Just add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the sysdig package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:eugenesan/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install smartsynchronize

Optional, to remove sysdig, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove smartsynchronize
