Awesome is a desktop environment which behaves as a window manager. It comes with a top panel with a systray where you can put your favourite apps. Also some widgets can be added, which will extend the Awesome’s basic functionality.
Awesome is highly customizable, designed for the users that want a great control of their Desktop Environment.
To install awesome, just type in your terminal: sudo apt-get install awesome
To configure awesome, you have to edit the files ~/.config/awesome/rc.lua and /etc/xdg/awesome/rc.lua.
The ~/.config/awesome/rc.lua is a local configuration file. So to add rules for a certain user only, add them to the user’s ~/.config/awesome/rc.lua file. To make global settings, available for all the users in the system, add the code lines to /etc/xdg/awesome/rc.lua.
