How To Install Tomahawk 0.8.4 (Music Player) On Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu 14.04 And Derivative Systems

As you may know, Tomahawk is an unique music player that unifies music sources like Spotify, SoundCloud, Rdio, Youtube and others to make listening to music easier. Like iTunes, it can play the music from your local computer. But with some plugins, it is capable of searching for your favorite music, on the music sites/sources I have just mentioned two lines up.

The latest version available is Tomahawk 0.8.4, which has been released a while ago, coming with a huge list of changes:

  • Fixed drag & drop issues on sidebar.
  • Fixed starting Tomahawk with a filename as parameter.
  • Update column view when collection changes.
  • Don’t crash on environments with invalid locales.

Installation instructions:

Up to date packages are available via some third party PPA, so installing Tomahawk on Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and derivative systems like Linux Mint 17.x, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya and derivative systems is easy.

All you need to do is add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the tomahawk package:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tomahawk/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install tomahawk

Optional, to remove tomahawk, do:

$ sudo apt-get remove tomahawk
