Linux News: Ubuntu Touch Gets A New Updater

As you may know, Ubuntu Touch 1.0 is scheduled for release this October. Among other improvements, the developers created an over-the-air updater, allowing the users to update Ubuntu Touch from the Updates panel in System Settings. The implementation of the update tool is not finalized yet, it doesn’t currently display a progress bar.

Until now, the users needed to use the phablet-flash commnadline tool to update the system.

For those who don’t know yet, Ubuntu Touch is an Ubuntu mobile operating system, developed by Canonical. The Ubuntu developers aim to make it 100 % compatible with Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, in order to allow the users to have on the phone the software needed on the desktop.

Ubuntu Touch is supported on the Google Nexus devices, including: Samsung Galaxy Nexus, LG Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Also, some geeks manager to install Ubuntu Touch on a Sony Xperia Tablet Z.
