Mir 0.14 Has Been Officially Released And Implemented On the Ubuntu Touch 15.10 Development Branch

As you may know, Mir is Canonical’s next generation display server specially created to replace the good old X.org server on Ubuntu desktop. For now, it is used by default only on Ubuntu Touch, the mobile version of Ubuntu, along with Unity 8.

Recently, Cemil Azizoglu has announced that Mir 0.14 has been officially released and has landed on the Ubuntu Touch 15.10 Wily Werewolf – development branch. Among others, it received MirEvent 2.0 improvements and unifications, adjustments for GCC 5.0 have been made and a lot of under-the-hood improvements have been added.

The official announcement:

“We have recently released Mir 0.14 to Wily (0.14.0+15.10.20150723.1-0ubuntu1). It’ll soon be released to Vivid+ as well. We have lots of goodies in 0.14,” says Cemil Azizoglu. “It was a comprehensive release where we broke every single ABI under the sun including the client ABI. That required us to release many dependent projects.”

With Mir 0.14 release, the development for Mir 0.15 will start soon. It will bring ANR (Application-Not-Responding) enhancements, support for raw input events and experimental Mir-on-X11 feature, permitting Mir to run as an X11 client in a windows.
