The Latest Kernel Patch For Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn Has Been Released, But It Is Better To Upgrade To Ubuntu 15.04

As a reminder, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn has reached end of life 2 days ago, meaning that the system will not receive any security fixes anymore. Also, packages for Ubuntu Utopic will not be added on Launchpad anymore.

Despite this, Canonical has pushed the latest kernel upgrade on the 24th of June, most probably for the users that did not upgrade their Utopic to Vivid yet.

The new kernel (kernel 3.16.0-44.59) includes 3 security patches. So, if you decide not to upgrade yet, update the system to receive the kernel patch:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If you decide to upgradet to Ubuntu Vivid, follow the below instructions.

Upgrade instructions, Ubuntu 14.04 or Ubuntu 14.10 to Ubuntu 15.04:

Perform a regular system update:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Install the update-manager-core if it is not already available, and run the upgrade:

$ sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
$ sudo do-release-upgrade
