Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Thunderbird is an open-source e-mail client and chat client developed by Mozilla. Among others, it has support for email addresses, newsgroup, news feed and chat (XMPP, IRC, Twitter) Client, managing multiple accounts. Also, it has support for different themes and its power can be extended by plugins.
The latest version available is Thunderbird 31.5.0, which has been released a while ago, coming only with bug-fixes and security enhancements. Recently, Thunderbird 31.5.0 has been added to the default repositories of all the supported Ubuntu systems and their derivatives, for an easier installation process.
So, in order to easily install Thunderbird 31.5.0 on Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet, Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Linux Mint 13 Maya, Pinguy OS 14.04, Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Elementary OS 0.2 Luna, Deepin 2014, Peppermint Five, LXLE 14.04, Linux Lite 2 and other Ubuntu derivatives, you have to update the local repository index and install the thunderbird package. Like this:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install thunderbird
Optional, to remove thunderbird, do:
$ sudo apt-get remove thunderbird
