Valve Has Annouced Their Newest Product: The Steam Controller Gamepad

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Valve has been very active this week, announcing many new products, like SteamOS and the Steam Machine.

Now they gave information to the press about a new project, called the Steam Controller Gamepad, a gamepad developed by Valve, which comes with support for all the Steam games. Among others, Valve’s gamepad comes with two high-resolution circular trackpads that can be easily controlled with the thumbs, in order to allow offer the user a good experience while playing strategy games, shooters and many other game types.

Also, the Steam Controller comes with a super-precise haptic feedback, employing dual linear resonant actuators. The electro-magnets attached on each trackpad, in order to deliver vibration, allowing a better control over frequency, amplitude and direction. So, this enables the players to receive priceless information about speed, boundaries, thresholds, textures, action confirmations, or any other events about which game designers want players to be aware, directly from the gamepad.

The gamepad will have a touchscreen in the middle of it, in order to provide a better support for all the Steam games. The screen is also clickable, acting like a single button so the players can swipe through pages, browse the available actions and commit them only by clicking on the screen.

There is no information about the price and the release date of Valve’s gamepad, but it will rock the Linux gaming world for sure.
