Valve Has Confirmed That SteamOS Will Be Custom Made And Not An Ubuntu Derivate

Hello Linux Geeksters. There were many rumours in the Ubuntu community that the SteamOS will be based on Ubuntu, since Valve and Canonical has a good prefessional relationship.

But Valve has confirmed that SteamOS will be a Linux system customized and optimized by themselves and has nothing to do with Ubuntu.

Valve Has Confirmed That SteamOS Will Be Custom Made And Not An Ubuntu Derivate

Personally, I think (and hope) it will be Debian based. If everything goes according to the plan, SteamOS will be released on the 13th of November, 2013.

For those who don’t know yet, Valve has initiated some ambitions projects: the SteamOS, a Linux operating system optimized for gaming, the Steam Machine, a gaming colsole that will run with SteamOS and the Steam Controller, a game controller specially designed for SteamOS and the Steam Machine. A demo video of the Steam Controller can be found here.
