Both Sony and Microsoft Announced That They Will Keep An Eye On SteamOS

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Sony and Microsoft are the leaders on the gaming console market with their PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

A while ago, Valve has announced that they will release their own gaming console called SteamBox (or the Steam Machine), running SteamOS, a new Linux system created by them. For now, we only know the possible hardware specifications of the Steam Machine and how the Steam Controller would look like.

Microsoft and Sony have serious motives to fear that Valve’s new gaming project will succeed and create great competition on the gaming consoles market.

After Microsoft’s VP Phil Harrison declared that they will keep a close eye on Valve’s gaming project, Sony’s Fergal Gara has announced a similar thing.

To my mind, both Microsoft and Sony have real motives to fear. Since Valve is the main developer that brought popular Windows games to Linux via Steam, nobody can consider them newbies in this domain and Linux provides very good stability. Also, AMD and Nvidia have already announced that they will support Valve’s innitiative.
