Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, MariaDB is a community fork of MySQL, released under an open source license. despite the fact that it is relatively new, it has been already adopted as the default on Fedora and OpenSUSE.
At the Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS), Canonical has announced that Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr will not replace MySQL 5.5 with MariaDB. But still, MariaDB and Percona will be available via the default repositories, so users can easily choose which database management system to use.
The Ubuntu Developer Summit brought up many important Ubuntu news in the press, among others, worth mentioning are the following:
- Ubuntu 14.04 will not be using Mir as default
- Canonical will make the Ubuntu Touch apps also available for the Ubuntu desktop
