Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the developers have scheduled a lot of changes for the future Linux Mint systems.

Until now, Linux Mint used as code base all the Ubuntu released systems, but recently, this thing has changed. Starting with Linux Mint 17, (based on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and supported until 2019), the next systems will be Linux Mint 17.1, Linux Mint 17.2, Linux Mint 17.3, all based on the same Ubuntu 14.04, while Linux Mint 18 will be based on Ubuntu 16.04, and so on.
Also, Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) has switched from the Debian Unstable packages to Debian Stable.
By building the Linux Mint 17.x systems on the same code base as Linux Mint 17, the developers have more time for improving the already existing Linux Mint specific applications and implement new desktop environments.
The developers have already announced that Linux Mint 17.1 (not released yet), codenamed Rebecca, will come with some important changes, added to the traditional Linux Mint systems:
- The future Linux Mint systems will be released in different colors.
- Folder Emblems can now be placed on the folder standard icons and the Cinnamon Screensaver has received new options.
Recently, new information about the future changes has been released. According to the Linux Mint developers, Cinnamon 2.4, to be used by default on Linux Mint 17.1, will include the new themes, available in more colors, a new graphical user interface to select the default theme.
