Hello Linux Geeksters. Not long after Cinnamon has arrived in the default repositories of Debian Sid and Debian Jessie, Cinnamon became available in the default repositories of Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander and Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail also.

As you may already know, Cinnamon is a desktop environment, created by the developers of Linux Mint, as a fork for Gnome 2. Its popularity grew when Gnome 3 became the default flavour on Ubuntu, Fedora and other popular systems. Cinnamon comes with Nemo as the default file manager, not the Gnome’s Nautilus.
The version added in the default repositories is Cinnamon 1.7.4, which is not the latest one available. To install Cinnamon and Nemo on Ubuntu 13.10 / 13.04, do:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install cinnamon nemo
To install the latest Cinnamon (1.8.x for now) and Nemo versions available, do this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install cinnamon nemo
If you want to totally replace Unity with Cinnamon, see this article for full instructions.
