rb2 - Games on Linux: How to Install Rigs of Rogs on Ubuntu and Linux Mint (without wine) - LinuxG.netRigs of Rods is a 3D simulator game, which gives you the possibility to drive, fly or sail different vehicles/planes/ships. The game is nice because it is very realistic. The simulation is extremely accurate, depending on the physical construction of the vehicles or objects you create.

Recommended System Requirements:

  • CPU: P4 or equivalent AMD at 2GHz or more, better with HyperThreading technology or dual-core (RoR has dual-core support)
  • RAM:512 MB of RAM
  • Video Card: 3D Accelerated with 128MB of VRAM or more
  • GLX on Linux
  • supports force feedback joysticks and wheels (except on Linux)
  • supports 3D sound effects with multichannel sound cards (enable the hardware sound renderer)

The game is available in the Ubuntu / Linux Mint by PPA since November 2012, but I have just discovered it.

So, let’s start installing:

Add the repo:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:aapo-rantalainen/rigsofrods

Update the repo index:
$ sudo apt-get update

Install the game:
$ sudo apt-get install rigsofrods

To start RoR (Rigs of Rogs), just type in your terminal /opt/rigsofrods/bin/RoR

Install new models:

To add new models to your game, download them from this site.

After you download the models you like, drag and drop them in the correspondent folder:
