Enable numlock in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-unity-greeter.conf:

$ sudo sh -c 'echo "greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/numlockx" on >> /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-unity-greeter.conf'

Restart the computer and everything should run smoothly.
