Hello Linux Geeksters.

Set 755 permissions on the newly created file:

$ sudo chmod 755 /etc/pm/sleep.d/99fancontrol.sh

Open the file:

$ gksudo gedit /etc/pm/sleep.d/99fancontrol.sh

Paste the following bash script:

#!/bin/bash
case “$1″ in
hibernate|suspend)
# Stopping is not required.
;;
thaw|resume)

    Thank you!
    Good info.
    You might correct the line:
    “$ gksudo /etc/pm/sleep.d/99fancontrol.sh”

    by replacing with:
    “$ gksudo gedit /etc/pm/sleep.d/99fancontrol.sh”

    Thanks for the script; I modified it a little to fit all needs:

    #!/bin/bash
    #
    #

    case “$1” in
    hibernate|suspend)
    # Stopping is not required.
    ;;
    thaw|resume)
    # In background.
    for cooling_device in $(ls /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/cooling_device?/cur_state -1)
    do
    echo -n 0 > $cooling_device
    sleep 2
    done
    ;;
    *) exit $NA
    ;;
    esac

    Thanks a lot it worked for my Compaq 610, at the beginning I though it was normal due my lap is not so new, so I made a little maintenance and cleaned the fan but the result was the same; now the annoying sound disappeared:)
