How To Install And Test The Ubuntu Touch Core Apps On Ubuntu 13.10 / Ubuntu 13.04

Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps, is project created by third party developers under the supervision of the Ubuntu developers, for the Ubuntu Touch, the Ubuntu operating system for mobile phones.

How To Install And Test The Ubuntu Touch Core Apps On Ubuntu 13.10 / Ubuntu 13.04

In this article I will show you how to install the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander and Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail. Since Linux Mint is 100 % compatible with Ubuntu, this instructions should also work on Linux Mint 16 Petra and Linux Mint 15 Olivia.

You can either install all the Ubuntu Touch Core applications, by installing the touch-coreapps package, or a certain application only. To install and test the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps you also need to install the ubuntu-sdk, which is available via a separate PPA:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-sdk-team/ppa
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-touch-coreapps-drivers/daily
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-sdk touch-coreapps

To install only a certain application, replace touch-coreapps with the name of the application you want to install (example ubuntu-weather-app)

The applications included in the Ubuntu Touch Core Apps are:

  • ubuntu-calculator-app
  • calendar-app
  • ubuntu-clock-app
  • ubuntu-weather-app
  • ubuntu-docviewer-app
  • ubuntu-emailclient-app (not working yet)
  • ubuntu-filemanager-app
  • ubuntu-rssreader-app
  • ubuntu-terminal-app
  • stock-ticker-mobile-app
  • dropping-letters
  • sudoku-app
  • music-app
