Hello Linux Geeksters. As you may know, Caffeine is an interesting app that prevents your computer from going to sleep when some programs are running. From a simple and intuitive GUI, the user creates a list of applications that forbid the computer to sleep, when the specified apps are running.
This is very good when you are watching movies or listening to music and you don’t need your computer to go to sleep. The latest version available is Caffeine 2.6.
In this article I will show you how to install Caffeine 2.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr and Linux Mint 17 Qiana.
Because it is available via PPA, installing Caffeine 2.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 is easy. All you have to do is add the PPA to your system, update the local repository index and install the caffeine package. Like this:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:caffeine-developers/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install caffeine
Optional, to remove caffeine, do:
$ sudo apt-get remove caffeine
Or, if you want to uninstall caffeine, disable the recently added PPA and downgrade all the packages that got updated via the PPA, do:
$ sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:caffeine-developers/ppa
